What would be the best home exercise machine?
my problem is that:
1- i’m a pear so my lower body is where all the fat goes
2- i’m already in a gym but i barely have time to go, but at home i’m pretty sure i’ll work out since i used to have a stationary bike and i loved it
3- I have bad back pains and my desk job isn’t helping
4- generally i have weak muscles and I can’t do strength training as it would do more harm than good
ok to make it a bit easier: it’s either el elliptical or the rowing machine. but i can’t settle on which would be better
If your pear shaped, want to lose weight, and dont want to strain and/or damage your knees, back, legs, neck, etc then COMPLETELY AVOID THE TREDMILL! Trust me, It’s horrible on everything, and it’s such hard work!
The perfect machine for you would be the elliptical! Its great because it does not strain you, you can go at your own pace, it’s easier and 100% more effective!! I love it it totally works for burning fat AND toning. the have then in the gym and at supermakets. They all work the same so I’m not mentioning particular brands. Also, to gain long lean muscle, put together a yoga routine. After a hard muscle-building workout do this yoga exersize and it will stretch the new muscle tissue preventing bulk!

I’ve read the elliptical machines that work your arms too are the best. I love ellipticals because I can watch TV, read, or even play video games while I’m on it.

Get a rowing machine, they are a great total body workout and fantastic for toning AND strengthening your muscles, these machines really do it all.
Concept 2 are the best for rowers and also featur some good programmes.
Don’t get an elliptical because they are the least effective cardio machine and are really for people you want to exercise but can’t be bothered and just want to watch TV.
Treadmills are pointless too because it is just better to run outside.
Hope this helps

I am 10 years old, but my Dad and I think that our elliptical is the best work out machine ever! I like my elliptical because you can listen to your iPod and watch T.V. You could probably even do a lot of other things, also. But when I go to my Grandmother’s house, I use her Treadmill and that works pretty good, too. But if you get an exercise machine, you should think about getting an elliptical. If you don’t like the elliptical, you should get a treadmill.

The best machine is anything that you will use regularly, but honestly you can do quite a bit with some hand weights and an exercise ball.
Your back pain is a result of a weak core and you are absolutely correct the desk job is not helping. That aside a good work out routine that targets those core muscles plus some stretching will go a long way to help with that pain.
There is only one cure for weak muscles and as much as you don’t want to hear it the answer is strength training, and unless you have a genetic disorder that is causing your muscle to atrophy, strength training will not do more harm, not strength training will. There are literally thousands of ways to strengthen are muscles.
My best advise would be the next time you do make it to the gym, talk to their trainer and ask them to set you up on a program that you can utilize at home and at the gym, any good trainer will be happy to do that for you.
I’m assuming that your goal is to lose some of the fat off the lower part of your body and the best way to do that is to use: A healthy diet of 4-5 small healthy meals spread out thru the day with a combination of strength (nothing burns fat faster then lean muscle) and cardio training.
Best of Luck
Truk
