What is the best exercise machine I can buy and use at home to help lose weight and tone muscle?

I’m looking to find something to help me get started out on the the right track and start helping me with cardio and to lose around 20-30lbs, so I was just wondering what kind of exercise equipment should I buy and any suggestions on the top brands.
