If you’re in your home, exercising to fitness DVD’s, is it STILL mandatory to wear sneakers? Why?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

I want to know if it would do any harm if I exercised on carpet with just my socks on b/c my sneakers rub against my toes & create corns & calluses. I mean, I’m going to be doing cardio salsa aerobics.

they say you should. i don’t know exactly why- maybe due to spraining an ankle, but don’t worry about it. people do salsa in heels!! i never wear shoes when i exercise

Burning calories on exercise machines – not worn out as i used to be?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

I burn 150 cal on the cross trainer,
100 cal on the stepper and 100 on bike.

but for some reason i dont get as knackered as i used, and i dont sweat anymore.

so am i burning less calories?

even though machines are saying 100 cal and over on each machine

i dont go jogging, as i dont really like going jogging on my own.

so i just do the machine exercise at home, and sometimes aerobics at home using dvd.

will i be still able to lose weight? even though am not that tired? do i have to increase my time on the machine?

thanks in advance all
i excercise 4x a week

U may b burning same amount of calories but ur body is getting used 2 the amount of exercise u r doing which means u r getting fitter.
U must increase the time on the machines gradually. U may like 2 increase the frquency to 5 times a week.
The basic rule is 2 feel fresh after the exercise & not completely drained out.
Keep on checking the weight as well which is another indicator whether u r getting enough exercise.

Can anyone suggest an effective yet somewhat easy gym workout to help with this?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

What is the most effective yet relatively easy workout that I can do that will help me lose weight and gain muscle? Am I wasting time by running endless miles on a treadmill or is that the most effective calorie burning machine? Would I be better off starting with free weights or should I hit the big shoulder weights right away? Any help is appreciated.

Would depend on your age/general condition at the moment…
I go to circuit training at local leisure centre, which is cheaper than gym membership & is more flexible. It gives a good mix of different exercises for overall toning/weight loss. A lot of the "stations" (basically different exercise parts) often use your own bodyweight e.g. press-ups etc which is often a better way to start. You can also use freeweights for some of the stations too.
Walking is always a good fat burner.
I also swim once a week to complement the circuits – again usually pretty cheap at municipal pool

I’m thin and don’t have money to join a gym. What exercises can I do at home to build up my muscles?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

I’m a 31-year-old thin male. I don’t necessarily want to be huge, I just want to have a good looking body. Any suggestions / sites with routines I can use? Thanks!

Push ups
Sit ups
Leg raises
Pull ups
Dips
Squats

If you buy a couple dumbells you can do alot more exercises, I’d suggest doing that.

How do i get nice muscles without gym equipment?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Try pilates as it works your core muscles, and you utilize your own weight for resistance.

Do home gyms have bench press?

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

I am thinking about purchasing a home gym such as the body solid exm 2500s or the weider 9635 and they both say they have a bench press feature. I don’t really know too much about home gym but in the pictures I dont see a barbell or anything to bench press. Does it like use the pulley system in a way similar to the bench press or does it mean you have to purchase a barbell and weights to use it or what?

It most probably comes with the barbell rest but you may need to buy the bar and the weights separately. When you purchase it, its a good idea to double check with the supplier.

Multi-Gym or Free Weights ?? Pro’s & Con’s.?

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

Considering buying a multi-gym as i need to work out on a regular basis and there is NO WAY i’m forking out daft amounts to join a gym.

I thought the multi-gym would be a safer option as i’ll be alone and dont want to be found 6mths later dead on a bench with a barbell across my chest (lol).

I’ve heard people saying free weights are better than multi-gyms, but i feel you get more for your money with the multi-gym.

What is the right way to go here; multi-gym or free weights?
STEVE: Thanks, that was a good site.

DANIEL: I’m not worried about weights falling on me, that was just a wee jest.

That’s one vote for free weights at least.

What are some workout methods I can use at home to get buff without using any equipment?

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

I know that if I want to get really buff, I should join a gym and use sophisticated equipment. But for now, what are some basic, easy methods I can use?

There are a few basic guidelines to follow in order to minimize the risk of injury and get the most out of your home workout.

• never perform the home workout two days in a row

• start with 2 laps of the home workout and build up to five

• never perform the home workout if you are feeling any muscle soreness

• proper form is most important

• the last few reps of each set should feel difficult

CIRCUIT WORKOUT

Pushups 10 repetitions (full or modified-keep body straight from knees to shoulders)

Squats 25 repetitions (feet wider than shoulder width, toes pointing out)

Ab Crunch 25 reps with knees bent to 90 degrees followed by 25 with legs straight in air

Standing Straight Leg Raise 25 reps each side (lift leg out to the side)

Ab Crunch (same as above)

Stationary Lunges 15 reps each side (keep front knee directly over your toes)

Standing Calf Raise 25 reps each (keep legs straight & hips still)

Dips 15 reps (using a chair, hands next to hips)

Ab Crunch (same as above)

Stationary Wall Sit 1 min. (knees bent to 90 degrees)

Low Back Extensions (lie on stomach with arms and legs straight in superman position, lift both arms and legs about 6 inches off floor, pause, lower and repeat)

Regardless of how many laps you do of the home workout, only perform 1 set of the low back extensions at the very end of your workout. This is to minimize the risk of back injury. For fit individuals this workout may seem a little less intense than their regular resistance workouts but remember that something is better than nothing. This home workout will prevent significant loss of muscle strength and endurance while you are away from the gym. Others may find this home workout to be quite a challenge. Start slow and don’t give up on yourself. Keep trying and within a half-dozen workouts you will notice huge improvement.
