I’m trying to get a "bolder" chest and to trim some fat off my thighs. Actually, everywhere in general!
I need a simple and effective at home workout regiment for the year. Again, I don’t have the money to afford a gym membership / equipment. If anyone could please give me a few suggestions (text based) that’d be great!
(things such as push-ups, etc)
There is a great at home workout in the current issue of Muscle & Fitness Hers called "Super Intervals". Yes, it’s a women’s magazine–this month’s cover is even pink, but the workout is killer. I’ve only been able to convince one of my male co-workers to do the intervals at lunch with me. The others are afraid.
I’ve seen the issue at my local grocery store and local drugstore — most places that sell a variety of magazines should carry it.
The workout has three phases:
Strength Training
High Intensity Intervals [think: cardio]
Cool Down [more strength training]
And, it can be done completely at home or over your lunch hour. If you can’t make it through all 4 sets of 15 reps of push ups that are included as part of the strength training phase, you could try modified push ups or use the back of a couch or the arm of a couch to make them easier.
Also, instead of doing just body weight on the 4 sets of 15 reps of squats, you could hold something heavy (like a dumbbell or a sandbag) while doing them.
You aren’t going to get ‘big’ (like body builder big) by doing this but you’ll definitely build up more muscle and lose fat. And it’ll kick your butt — It feels like you’ve really got a great workout once you’re done.
There is a second article in the same magazine about doing resistance exercises without weights — something else you can do at home — but I haven’t tried that workout yet.
